This site has maps with moving images that show something called “base reflectivity,” which is used to measure and track precipiation. You can tell at a glace if rain is headed your way, how intense it will be, and approximately when it will arrive.
Base reflectivity maps are continuously updated and very easy to read. Early in the reason I take some pleasure in announcing to my newer crew members, after they return from lunch, that they can expect rain on the foarm within a half hour. When the accouncement proves correct, which it usually does, they are suitably impressed and may even attribute to me godlike divining powers ── that is, until they encounter their first base reflectivity map.
